For the 21st Century Commodore Enthusiast!

Commodore is back – as an Android Smartphone!

I have long dreamed that there would be a modern “must-have” Commodore product available in the twenty-first century. It looks like my dream has come true with the release of the Commodore Pet smart phone. I have yet to get my hands on one, but I am already impressed with the Pet.

Just from what I can see, the Pet screams out elegance and class – especially the bright white. It has smooth lines that remind me of a luxury automobile. The slightly curved back looks very ergonomic as well.

Commodore delivers a pure Android experience on the Pet utilizing just a slightly modified version of Lollipop. The slight modifications are listed as a custom boot animation, original images & tunes and pre-installed emulators for playing classic Commodore games. This means that the Pet will not have the performance lag suffered by most Android smart phones (such as the Samsung Galaxy series).

The technical specifications are impressive:

  • Runs on 4G LTE, GSM, WCDMA networks
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS and an FM radio
  • CPU: Octa-core 1.7 GHz 64 bit
  • GPU: Mali-T760 OpenGL ES 3.1
  • Built-in storage: 16 GB (Pet 2/16 model) or 32 GB (Pet 3/32 model)
  • MicroSD slot for up to 32 GB removable storage
  • Memory: 2 GB (Pet 2/16 model) or 3 GB (Pet 3/32 model)
  • 5’5″ Full HD 1920×1080 IPS OGS Display
  • Front Facing Camera – 8 MP 80′ Wide Angle Lens
  • Rear Facing Camera – 13 MP BSI f/2.0 Large Aperature Lens with flashlight and physical shutter button
  • Full sensor set including direction, acceleration, proximity, air gesture, light sensor, hall switch, magnetic, gyroscope
  • Dual MicroSIM for use on two different networks
  • Removable 3000 mAh battery

I would love to get my hands on this to perform a full review. I also hope that Commodore considers releasing a tablet with a classic Commodore styled external bluetooth keyboard.
